Local food pantries grateful for
donations of processed deer

President Debbie Dugan presents Access Illinois Outdoors coordinator
Brenda Middendorf with a $500 donation to the Access Food program.
Brenda
received the $500.00 check from Rotary to help with the processing of deer
donated by hunters to the Food Pantries in Pike County. Brenda
reported that over 10,000 pounds of processed deer meat was distributed
last year and this year she expects more, since the Area Disposal has told
outfitters that they would not be picking up deer carcasses. The
area locker plants are processing the deer. (Note: On 11-10-08 over 29
deer were brought to the refrigerated trailer at The Archery Shop, and
over 2900 pounds of processed deer meat was distributed to the two Pike
County Food Pantries). Brenda should be commended for doing such an
excellent job!

Harry Wright, famed all-star cook for the Pittsfield Rotary
Club, shows the hardware he received for his efforts at the Pike County
Pig Days celebration. Harry took home 2nd place in ribs and 3rd place
with his brisket. Way to go Harry!

today's delivery of meat from Magro's Processing in Auburn from our
firearm season we have now exceeded 10,000 pounds of processed meat
donated to the Pike County Food Pantries. This came just in time to be
included in the Christmas Basket program. We thank you so much for your
