PITTSFIELD ROTARY CLUB             District 6460        10-4-06

IMPORTANT!!!!  President Anna Revis has informed us that the Rotary Center piece will be put in the project at the Illini Hospital at 1:00 p.m. on This Wednesday, immediately after our Rotary meeting….This should be a major part of the project, and hopefully, finish the project.  Plan on attending this very interesting event after our meeting……

Senior Guests:   Robert Hanna, son of Larry and Debbie, plays football and worked m40 hours a week during the summer for Jiffi Stops….Plans to go to college, probably at the University of Illinois,  and study engineering.

Immanuel Pursley, son of Earl and Mary, is on the Math team, Scholastic Bowl, describes himself as a ‘geek’, is into baseball and studying, and wants to become an Actuary, and plans to attend Bradley University.

Visiting Rotarian:  Jack Garner, from the Rotary Club of Mt. Joy, Pennsylvania.  He  bought us a flag from his club.   He also brought along Joe Wikans, who was just a visitor.

Phil Bradshaw brought us a make-up…from somewhere in the world…

Rotary Radio Day ads are extremely important to get sold, as soon as possible… Get the information to your team captain as quickly as possible.

Program:  Helen Wright, filling in for Shirley Johnston, who had gotten this program for us,… introduced Clarey, one of the librarians and Beth Stark, Youth Librarian, who explained the workings of our current library.

Beth told of the very successful Art Camp, held twice this summer, for K through 6th grade.  They have also had a ‘play’ camp, where youth learn how to act out a play.  They currently are reading o win books…

Harry Potter program was very well attended, even bringing in youth from Quincy and Hannibal.  They are trying to do something different every month of the year.

Clarey reported that the handicap entrance has really help library use by the older people.

They are planning a 100 year celebration.. The library was started in 1906, but finished in 1907.

They have put together a notebook with old pictures.  The lst library was started in 1880….the lst librarian also ran the telegraph.

Earlier, they  had a ‘ladies reading room’ in 1856 here in Pittsfield..

David Fuhler was nominated as the person in this area  that exemplifies the 4-Way Test of Rotary, and will receive the award at the District meeting.
