PITTSFIELD ROTARY CLUB District 6460 4-25-07
BACK!!
Good to have Ralph Newman back in town and at our Rotary
Meeting.!!
CONGRATULATIONS: To our Pittsfield Rotary
Club for putting on a very informative Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco Awareness Day
at PCS. Over 300 youth
participated. (West Pike was
the only no-show school)….
The shirts given out with DEAD on them, and
the subliminal message 0f ‘Drugs End All Dreams’, was designed by a local
student, and were very popular, since many showed up at the school round up that evening…
Participation appeared to be rather
wholehearted on the part of the students….
Illini Foundation provided generous funding
for the project, and John Teuscher, President, said that “This is one
Rotary Program that is really effective, and IMPORTANT to the entire
community. I feel that the
Illini Foundation will probably continue funding their part of the
expense”…..
Judge Drummond reported to Rotarians at the
even that this is the very best program of its type in the state and he
works with many of them…….
Congratulations to President Ann, Committee
Chair Murray Martin and all participating Rotary members for a great
event!!!
President Ann reported that Rotary will
receive a Rotary Grant for Literacy in the amount of $500.00. This will be turned over to
John
Wood Community College to utilize in the
Adult Literacy program…
Make-ups: Several from Eldon Atwood out in
California, one on Internet and one for
Roberta at our Board meeting. (Come on folks, you too can make up on the
internet…..or at other regular Rotary meetings in the area….let’s have one
month this year with perfect attendance somewhere)…..
Student Guests from Griggsville/Perry: Kyle Garrett, son of Michael
and Linda. Student Council
Treasurer, National Honor Society Vice President, on Scholastic Bowl team;
participates in Track and field and cross-country. Works for Burrus Seed
in the summer as a supervisor… Plans on attending Illinois College in Chemistry.
Alyssa Hobson, daughter of Todd and
Shelly. SADD president,
National Honor Society President, Scholastic Bowl Team; and a Cheer
leader..
Alyssa works at Subway, tutors children,
takes classes at John Wood and Plans on attending SIU in
Pre-Med…
Program: Jan Bleich introduced Nancy
Gleckler, RN, from the Pike County Health Department.
Nancy spoke on Pandemic Influenza, ands
other flu…
Flu isn’t something to be taken lightly, it
is seasonal and about 36,000 die every year from it…so it’s nothing to
sneeze at…(no pun intended)
We try to protect ourselves from flu by
getting shots each year,
(they don’t protect you against stomach flu)…
Bird Flu, is rampant in all segments of the
world but the Americas…It can get here, by crossing over from Asia at
Alaska by migrating birds….
Our Health Department has a plan in place to
handle an outbreak, but hopefully, the plan won’t be necessary…..There IS
a meeting at the Health Department this Wednesday at 3:00
p.m…….
Johnson Stilwell is a patient at
Illini…… |
