Pittsfield Rotary Club District 6460 7-19-06

Guests: Matt Gleckler, Barry, who received a Rotary Scholarship and will be attending Illinois College this fall.

Derek Peine, the new plant manager for the Western Illinois Alcohol Plant at Griggsville, as a guest of Walker Filbert. (Getting started already!!)

President Anna Revis informed us that the brick laying at the hospital for the Rotary walk has started, and HELP is needed to get the bricks from the piles to the brick layer...(who is currently working in the evenings due to warmish weather that we are currently having). Any help a Rotarian can give would be greatly appreciated..

President Anna presented Past-President Walker Filbert with his Past President Plaque and pin...since they had not arrived by our annual meeting. Walker graciously accepted them and wished Anna a great year.

Program: Jan Bleich introduced Scott Andress, owner of the ‘Archery Shop’ located in the Pittsfield ‘Industrial Park’.

Scott told us that his business was honored by being named the #1 Archery Bow and Arrow Dealer in Illinois and for the top sales of tree stands and carbon arrows. He was also 38th in the Nation.

Scott started the business in 2001 as a hobby.. The business has really increased beyond all of his expectations and his sales of archery supplies has been phenomenal. He has the best short range archery in western Illinois and draws clients from a large area.

Scott stated that the most important thing a retailer can do is to pay attention to services and what the customer wants....and make every effort to fufill their wants and needs.

‘The Pittsfield ‘Industrial Park’ is really turning into a Sports/Hunting Complex...with Foiles Outfitters, JDL Sales and Service and the recent purchase of a space by Longbeard Taxidermy and their s

subsequent starting to build a facility there. With the ‘Archery Shop’, that makes FOUR Major sporting businesses locating there.

Pike County is becoming known as a ‘Hunting Area’....nation wide....Hunting is a VACATION for most hunters, and many bring their families several times during the year, not just for hunting. It is a multi-million dollar industry for all the businesses ...not just outfitters.

We need to see that people visiting get ‘what they want’...they will come back.

The Lodges that have been springing up around the county are truly phenomenal...

Hunting is BIG Business!!

The state biologists estimate that the current deer herd could be expanded by an additional 60%

without damaging the current habitat...(well, he did say that crops and cars would suffer)

Go out and see what the Archery Shop has to offer....you’ll be amazed

Excellent information Scott!!!....and we are prout that you were a member of our Rotary Little League Team for those years a ‘few years ago....

Our apology to Debbie Naught who introduced last week’s speaker....not Debbie Dugan .
