It should guide you on the right path to your ancestors. Visiting Rotarian: Ed Brokaw, Abilene, Texas President Anna Revis told us the Rotary Hospital project is coming along nicely. Blood Drive at Illini: August 24. Call 285-2111 to make an appointment. Blood IS needed. Rotary District 6460 District Conference will be October 5, 6, & 7 at Springfield. Each club is asked to put together a basket of local materials to be raffled off..... See what you might have.... Program: Dr. Mel Martin introduced Elder and Sister Spencer, who are serving as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, (Mormon). They are here for one year, are from Vernal, Utah...(that’s real desert folks)... Missionaries are charged with promoting the following: Education, World-wide commitment to helping others; Emergency Preparedness; Medical Supplies; Family History; Self Sufficiency.. They cover an area from Hardin to Mt Sterling and from the Illinois River to the Mississippi River. Their duties consist of teaching, financial advisers, and proselyting as missionaries of their Church. Elder and Sister Spencer also serve as literacy teachers for John Wood, are teaching a course on Family History (see top of this letter).. They also serve at Illini Hospital Information desk and help at the Cross Roads Center. Their Church has a commitment to help people in disasters for their immediate needs, then help in reconstruction. Emergency supplies arrive within days of earthquakes or tsunamis. Church members over 18 are automatically members of the Church’s relief organization. When in Salt Lake City, make sure that you see ‘Welfare Square’....a short ride out from Temple Square. Shipments from these huge warehouses can be distributed within hours. They have also developed a ‘porridge’ product that has been perfected that is easily digested, will last indefinitely, and can be sent to starving people in any part of the world. Spencers also distributed materials on preparedness to all present. Interesting program by two dedicated individuals that are doing their year of ‘missionary’ work at their own personal expense. |
