[hwright@adams.net] Sent: Sunday, July 16, 2006 10:05 PM To: Undisclosed-Recipient:; Subject: Rotary July 12, 2006 Pittsfield Rotary Club District 6460 July 12, 2006 New Member: Charles "Chipper" Burch .....Pike County Assistant District Attorney, was inducted into our club by our new District Governor, Dick Robinson. Charles is the lst in a real bunch that Membership Chairperson Debbie Dugan has lined up for membership.... here’s the list of people being proposed for membership who have said Yes to having their names published.. Let the Rotary Board know if there are others: Tim Halpin; (NAPA Auto Parts), Richard Smith; (Realty 1), Dan Long; (Brants), Frank McCartney; (Pike County States Attorney), Adam Lawson; (Farmers State Bank), Tim Leahy; (International Eye Care); Lisa Welbourne; (Former Rotarian); Jennifer Mowen; (Pike County Economic Development Corporation/Pike County Cooperative Extension Service); Brenda Middendorf; (Two Rivers RC&D)), Bryce Gleckler; (Heaton’s), Rachel Baker; (Main Street), Alicia Miller, (Chamber of Commerce). (ONLY TWELVE, Debbie?????.......Go Girl!!!) Eric and Linda did their best on singing ‘When the Saints Go Marching In"... but somehow the center/ slightly unknown section went somewhere else...They recovered with a rousing rendering of ‘Smile’.....(or maybe it was the lst song that was ‘rendered’) Pittsfield Rotary Club has a ‘WEB’ site...thanks to Max Middendorf. It is excellent. Take time to look, learn and enjoy it. It will have all of our information on it soon. www.pittsfieldrotary.com Just click on the site and add it to your favorites Program: Debbie Dugan introduced District Governor Dick Robinson, who is in the ‘Image Enhancement’ business. DG Dick thanked our club for their support.. He said, ‘In life we have ups and downs, and being District Governor is a real high!’ Dick brought a message from Rotary International President Bill Boyd, which was graphically imprinted on the Dark Blue DG jacket that went well with the fancy designed New Zealand tie, which was imprinted with the design of a shell from that country. Rotary has given 101 years of outstanding service to the world. No other organization has donated as much toward relief , such as in Polio Plus, and has such a world-wide effect. Hunger/ Health/ Water/Literacy are all BIG Rotary challenges. Hungry people struggle too survive, have health problems and resulting literacy problems, plus lack of potable water....You cannot truly learn when you are thirsty and hungry. Good clean water is also important for growing crops. U.S. has 70 percent of the potable water in the world. We need to teach others how to clean their water.... then they will grow out of poverty. Rotary does have a problem....or an opportunity. 70 percent of all Rotarians in developed countries DO NOT contribute to the Rotary Foundation. Membership is important. Dick challenged each president o get 2 member to induct at his visit. We’ve 2790 members in District 6460. (We’d of made it, but one could not be at this meeting.) Make Rotary Fun....Good clean fun is good for the soul.....Remember...YOU sell Rotary! Thanks for coming DG Dick...pretty good talk for a short term DG... Gaylord Rhodes reported we was WHOMP’D At the Pig Day Cook-off. Best we could get was the 3 rd place won by Randy Bleich’s excellent ribs.....and after we won it all last year. Well, Chris Little has a whole year as chairman of that committee to get prepared......and since voting by the pubic eaters is so important, having more that just the two or three Rotarians who participated in the ‘eating part’ of the judging, maybe a little more support of our fellow Rotarians is a distinct possibility, and would help us again win the traveling trophy back. Thanks to Jan and Randy Bleich, Connie Schroeder, Gaylord Rhodes, Chris Little, Harry Wright, Ron Short and Violet Shulman. We would like to have some other ‘younger’ Rotarians pick up the challenge for 2007...start your planning now!! Rotary Board for 2006/2007: Anne Revis -President; Randy Hires-President elect; C.A. 'Chuck' Barber-Secretary;Roberta Dolbeare-Treasurer; Walker Filbert-past President; Brandon Gerard; Walter Lamb; Connie Schroeder; Debbie Dugan Committe Chair Assignments/ (some yet to be made): Literacy: Connie Schroeder; Membership: Debbie Dugan; Rotary Foiundation: Walter Lamb; Music: Linda Bradshaw; Scholarship: Violet Shulman; Christmas Party: Becky McCartney; Cook-off: Chris Little; Sgts at Arms: Johnston Stilwell and Walter Lamb; Nominating Committee: Walker Filbert, Chris Little, and David Fuhler
