WOW!!!! WHAT A GREAT MEETING! We had a wonderful attendance, the District Governor as our speaker, two great students guests from Pleasant Hill, possibly record sales for Radio Day, and the impressive display of generosity from all you club members who donated to “Every Rotarian, Every Year.”   Here’s the run down:

Presiding:  “El Presidente” Randy Hires

Prayer: Chuck Barber

Song Leader: Bryn Fine

Student Guests:   Two high-achieving senior students from Pleasant Hill High School:

Micole Guthrie-Gant – Micole is active in volleyball,  Captain of Pep Club, President of Student Council, participated in Quiz Bowl, President of FACS Club, in math club, chorus, statistician for two sports, in FFA and a Lion’s Club volunteer.  She plans to major in graphic communications in college.

Jaclyn Springer treated us to an original poem describing her activities, plans, etc.  It is so great that I will include it here:

It’s a pleasure to be here, this day and time,

So sit back, relax, while I read you my rhyme.

My name is Jaclyn Springer, I’m from Pleasant Hill

I look forward to college, just not the bill.

I love my family, this much is true

I’m a funny girl, don’t let the tie fool you.      (Editor’s note: she had a red, funky tie on – CUTE)

Clubs and activiti4es, you name it, I’m there.

A volunteer for the Lion’s Club during the fair.

I work in LA at SBFS,

To make my car payments monthly, and yes,

I’m still active in Student Council, you see,

For the last two years, I’ve been the VP.

I’m familiar with computers, they say I have skill

I’ll major in computer science, there are jobs to fill.

I think I’m organized and mature

And also responsible, I’m pretty sure.

I’m athletically challenged, not one of the jocks.

But you’ll have to agree I think outside the box.

Thank you for having me here at this lunch

I really enjoyed it.  Thank you a bunch!!

Also – Thanks for the great turnout this morning (Thursday) at the Radio Station for our work day – as usual we had dedicated Rotarians working efficiently to get things together in record time.

                  PROGRAM:

Debbie Naught, Assistant District Governor introduced our current District Governor, Ron Riggins from Washington, Illinois.  DG Ron presented an inspiring message about Rotary.  He told of the wonderful experience of Rotary International Asssembly.  There were 529 District Governors present from 200 countries and territories.  All from different places and cultures, but sharing one common bond – Rotary.  This year’s theme, “Rotary Shares” exemplifies the spirit of Rotarians.  Rotary Shares because Rotarians Care by sharing their time, money and kindness.

At the end of DG Ron’s talk, El Presidente Randy presented him with his personal check for “Every Rotarian, Every Year.”  Following Randy’s lead, Rotarians present each filed to the front and presented a personal donation.  The total donations to Rotary Foundation totaled $2220!!!

                  DEDICATION OF ROTARY GARDEN:

After our regular meeting, members of our club went to Illini Community Hospital to formally dedicate our centennial project: The Rotary Garden.  Even though rain kept us inside, the ceremony was meaningful and inspiring.  Even Harry Wright was able to join us!

FINAL COMMENT:  I know you all will join me in saying that I AM PROUD TO BE A ROTARIAN – ESPECIALLY A MEMBER OF THIS CLUB!!   THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR HARD WORK TO MAKE RADIO DAYS ANOTHER SUCCESS AND FOR YOUR GENEROSITY IN DONATIONS TO ROTARY FOUNDATION.   SEE YOU THIS WEEKEND!!!
