JULY 7 was HOT!!! 94 degrees on the courthouse lawn…and no other Rotarians braved the heat to assist in defending our Rotary Honor in the Prince Pig Pig-Days Cook-off……
Not to worry….Harry was there, with a borrowed cooker and his milkcan chair.
Granddaughters fetched the needed small items, and some very excellent pork dishes were prepared…..Daughter-in-law Anita, passed out the food, and Granddaughters, Zoe and Maggie put the toothpicks in the dishes…..and also helped fill the sample cups…..
The Pulled Pork Butt was excellent, but got 4th, the brisket
the same…..it was the GREAT Bar-Be
–Que’d RIBS that brought us fame…..
They got
With Nine Bar-Be-Que teams competing from Jacksonville, Quincy, Beardstown, Louisiana, Mo, Springfield and several other towns….that have big Bar-Be-Que Contests, I’m proud that the many judges agreed on the high quality of the Ribs…
We also again WON the traveling trophy for Service Clubs….(which has to be returned for competition nest year). That’s 2 years out of the 3 the contest has been held…..and against a very GOOD team from the Elks Club of Beardstown…..
Will bring the trophies to the Wednesday meeting…
OK Folks….lets plan on winning again in 2008……
Note: Have to brag that both Granddaughters won their age divisions for THEIR ribs also…and did their own preparations of ‘rub’ and ‘sauce’…..and did everything except take the hot meat out of the cooker, or cut the ribs apart…(Grandpa helped with that)…
