PITTSFIELD ROTARY CLUB   District 6460    8-22-07

Visiting Rotarian: Stan Enger, Louisiana, MO

Walter Lamb, Roberta Dolbeare, Shirley Johnston and President Randy Hires attended the ‘energizing’ session in Quincy last week…..watch how they use it to get us moving…..

WEDNESDAY…….’Wear your favorite Hat day at our Rotary’….wear a hat, or…….(see the previous note from Randy I forwarded last week)….

Shirley Johnston :   we would like to start an ‘interest group’ at PHS. We checked with Gary Wood  and he said, ‘Run With It’… We need to send some youth to ‘Rotley’….Rotary Leadership for Youth…..

President Randy:  look for a project in our communities that we could take on and donate $500.00 to, and have it matched by the Rotary Foundation, or District funding…..

A good idea was picked up at the ‘energizing session’…establishing the ‘Gear-Head’ of the  month….by giving points for participation in Rotary…all functions….and then the ‘Gear-head’ gets to be served lst for the whole month at our meetings….

PPres  Ann told us that Judge Drummond has requested a little help in getting other Rotary Clubs around the state to assist with the Drug and Alcohol Program that he will be presenting in other counties around the state….after the  success that our Rotary Club, and our school communities have had with the program….how can we accomplish this….?

(Well, Rotarians, we ought to really  jump in on this one BIG TIME!!!...Harry)

Program:  Carol Bradshaw introduced Prevention Specialist Peggy Johns, of the mental Health Centers of Western Illinois

Peggy says she is called the ‘Drug Lady’ in the schools.

Last year, she talked to all the 6 & 7 grades in Pike County about Drugs and Alcohol. And Peer pressure.

This uyear she will add 10th grade in two schools., covering class action and law enforcement at Pleasant Hill and West Illinois….

She also works with SADD groups.  She is  doing an assessment on teen drinking in Pike County.

Need people to form a coalition to reduce the underage drinking in the county.

One problem is the permissive attitude of many parents and grand parents toward alcohol and tobacco usage .in Pike County.

Need to develop a strategy to combat this attitude……

REMEMBER YOUR HAT!!!!!!!!!!!
