New President elected for 7-08 to 6-09:  Jan Bleich will be taking over for Randy (El- Wheel, or what ever….) On July 1, 2008….since she was elected at this meeting.

Good Luck, Jan…you’ve 5 ½ months to plan and get ready to take over…..

 

TWO new Board members elected:  Bobette Pfeiffer and Dan Borrowman will be added to the Rotary Board to assist Jan in controlling this club…..and providing guidance for our future activities:  .

 

Student Guests from Western  High School: (Barry-West Pike)

 

Britni Menke, daughter of Rick and Judy Shover and Al Menke.  She is in NHS, Academic Challenge Team,  volleyball, cheer leader, band, work base class at Dental Clinic, works at the lst National Bank, tutors Spanish and Algebra, enjoys swimming, boating, golf and plans on attending University of Missouri in medical field, either podiatry, or cardiology.

 

Arielinett Lair, daughter of Lonnie and Jane.  In marching band, Flag captain, Quiz Bowl, Youth group President, choir, likes to take care of animals. Plans to attend Illinois College or Blackburn in Veterinary Medicine.  

 

Annie Sigler, daughter of Robert and Kim. Is in NHS, Year book, Cheer Leader, Studio B youth group at church, psychology, works at County Market.  Spends free time with family.  Plans on attending JWCC for 2 years, then Hannibal LaGrange in psychology.

 

Guests:  Dr. Jake Brown with Mark Meleski.  Camille Donaldson, Counselor at Western High School with student guests. Jamie Patterson, new Environmental Health employee at Pike County Health Department, with Jan Bleich.

 

Make-up:  Walter Lamb at London, England via Inter-net….. keeping his perfect record straight…..(not on a napkin….)

 

Program:  Jan Bleich brought a power-point on Smoke-Free Illinois.

 

The Smoke-Free act took effect Jan. 1, 2008.

No smoking within 15 fewwt of  any entrance, or openable window.

25 percent of the population smokes.  Second hand smoke kills 2900 people in Illinois each year..

There is NO     risk free level of exposure.

Illinois is the 23rd state to go Smoke-Free.
