The Rotary Literacy Grant, which our club had received, needs input of ideas as just how to utilize the grant.  Get your valuable, worthwhile ideas to the Literacy Chairperson:  Connie Schroeder.

Ron Short reported that the GSE team is to be here on April 22-24. Details of their local visit are still being worked out. It has been suggested touring of Sprague’ Lodge…Andy Sprague was a Rotary  GSE Team member to Brazil several years ago.

Program:  Violet Shulman gave her own program….a chronology of her Uncle, Matt Ross, who grew up in southern Iowa, migrated to Kansas, became a Rotarian  and ended up a very important and productive businessman in Overland Park, Kansas.

He was married to his wife for over 75 years, was  responsible for much of the growth of Overland Park, operating several businesses.

The town thought so much of his help for the entire area that they named their huge Community Building for him.

Violet gave us so much information about his accomplishments, I did not get them all down…however, he did one thing for us in Pittsfield….he installed the value of giving of ones’ self to the community in his niece, Violet….and she has truly continued his legacy in ‘Service Above Self’….here in Pike County.   Thanks, ‘Uncle Matt’, for providing such an example that your niece, Violet, has truly continued in the same manner as you!

Excellent program, Violet….
