Please consider joining Wally, Shirley, PDG Erick and Roberta….plus RANDY for the trip. (Randy says he will drive…and can add another seat in his van if necessary…..<you do NOT have to ride on the back of his motorcycle>…..)

There may be some……..b…… hopping after the meeting……

The Canton Rotary Club is sponsoring a golf outing on September 12..want to join Randy with a club or two for the occasion, he will go if a 4-some materializes…

Chuck pointed out that there is an article in the 6460 News  (distributed today), by our Ann Revis….  Read your copy……

Program:  Gary Woods came through (after President Randy promised a meeting of ‘Line Dancing’ for today’s meeting if a program didn’t materialize)…..THANKS…..Gary!!!

Gary presented Dan Brue, Principal of PCS.

Dan spoke on the 3-TierReading instruction for 2007-2008 that has been instituted at PCS.  This program has produced SIGNIFICANT increases in reading ability in all grades.  ( You may recall the rather derogatory news articles in the newspapers in past years)…

Dan said ‘Reading instruction has totally changed in the last 6 years’

Tier 1:  each child reads 90 minutes a day.  For Tier 2:  an additional 30 minuets is required, 2 to 4 times a week.

Tier 3 is an additional 60 minutes added onto all the Tiers above… and is utilized for learning disabled students.

All Tiers will involve an ‘IEP’….(Individual Education Program) for each child.

Dan also stated: ‘We (PCS) are going to  be better than most districts.  We are almost doubling our reading instruction.’

Thanks, Dan, for bringing us up to date on this big improvement for the reading program at PCS, and the excellent effect it will have on our local children’s future education.

(Double thanks to Gary for preventing the promised ‘Line Dancing’ event that our Presidente’ Randolfo had promised if no program materialized ).

A short Rotary Board meeting followed the regular meeting and $500.00 was voted to be given to the Community Center to help with the Air Conditioning costs…..

Thanks to Chuck for the note taking…..
