PITTSFIELD ROTARY CLUB   6-10-09

President Debbie informed us that the Annual Meeting will be June 30, 2009 at the Pike County Farm Bureau Hall at 6:30 p.m.  Jennifer will be catering.  Sign-up now so we know how many to prepare for.

Violet announce the scho9larship winners have been picked.  They will be awarded their scholarships at the Annual meeting.

President Elect Jan Bleich made one more plea for members to fill out the survey.  If you haven’t done it yet, contact her please.

Debbie presented the Paul Harris Fellow Award to Gary Woods. He was unable to make the District Meeting.

Gary was very appreciative of being selected for this honor.

Walter Lamb again made up…not on  a napkin…..

Harry reminded the club of the Pig Day Bar-b-que, and asked for members to let him know who would help uphold Rotary’s Honor at the event.

Debbie thanked Carol Bradshaw specially for all the help and her family’s hosting the Friday nite pot-luck, and also for going with her to pick-up the GSE Team and also for taking them to Troy where they met their connection. Also again thanked all those who hosted the team, and Violet for driving over to Troy and bringing Carole back…

Program:  Carole Bradshaw introduced Jill Bickham, Director of The Community Foundation of the Quincy Area..

Jill said it is important for people to “Live Here-Give Here” the 12 county  area that the Foundation covers, is a rich area.  Pike County’s wealth is about 1.4 Billion, or about $209,000.00 per family.

About 1.36 TRILLION $ will be transferred between families in the next 6 years in Illinois.

She suggested that if  5 percent was invested, as a legacy for the future of the next generation, there would be far more industry in the area. The heirs would not miss it, and the county would benefit.  It would amount to over 5 million $ in Pike County.

Remember, the next generation will probably not live in the county they were born in…..
