Student Guests from Pleasant Hill:

Kaitlin Johns, daughter of Pam Ward.  She is in NHS, FFA, , FCRS, SADD, Math Club, Pep  Club, Cheerleader, Soft Ball, is a Lifeguard.  She received the Academic Achievement Award.  She cleans Houses, Volunteers at the PH Cemetery, likes reading, writing and playing with her animals. She plans on attending QU, majoring in Biology.

 

Marcy Black, daughter of Carla and Ken.  She is in NHS, Math Club, SADD, Student Council, WYSE, FACS, Chorus, National Achievement Academy, plays volleyball, baseball and is a State category Track team member.  She is Assistant Manager of the Louisiana YMCA Pool and coaches Special Olympics.

SHE PLANS ON ATTENDING iNDIANA sTATE u. IN sPORTS tHERAPY.

 

Roberta reported that we will try something elwso to replace the ‘Simplified Grant’

 

Program:  David Fuhler introduced Sandy SAhotts and David Greenwood, from the Pike County Sheriffs department.

Sandy pointed out that the sheriff’s office does more than just law inforcement…. as shown during the last flood.             Preparing for major disators with proper planning is extremly imporftant.  The feeding in reach #1 was 42,000 meals, Reach #2 38,000 meals, and the cost of keeping the waters off the land was about $3, 330,000.00

There are 44 miles of levy     to patrol and it was done day and night.  A DEPUTY was assigned the job of coordinating all supplies needed to do the job. and work with the Illinois National GuaRD, sNY LEVY DISTRICT, eMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OF ILLINOIS, COAST GUARD, rED cROSS AND THE pIKE cOUNTY hEALTH DEPARTMENT,, plans were coordinated every day..

a EVACUATION PLAN WAS DEVELOPED, THEY HAD TO FEED AND WATER ALL THE PEOPLE WORKING ON FLOOD CONTROL, AND COORDINATE AFTER THE FLOoD THREAT IS OVER AND PICK UP ALL THE DEBRIS AND OTHER LEFT OVER MATERIALS.  All workers had to have tetnus shots.

David Greenwood showed pictures he had taken froM the ground and air, and stated the volunteers made the difference between keeping and losing the levees…..
