                    PITTSFIELD ROTARY CLUB   9-24-08

Wednesday, October 1st, our Representative Jim Watson will be our program. Jim has just returned from Iraq.  Let’s have a GOOD turnout for OUR representative.

Our Rotary Club received a letter from the District Governor Dick Passmore.

He enjoyed  his ‘wonderful’ visit!  (His words). He thanked the members who contributed to ‘Every Rotarian Every Year.  (25 m3embers have contributed thus far).  He stated that Pittsfield Rotary Club is an example of a club ‘doing everything right’……Keep it up!

KEEP THE DATE OF November 18 available for a joint meeting at the Lighthouse with the Louisiana Rotary Club, as they have accepted our invitation.

A request for help for flood victims is to be taken before the board.

Roberta Dolbeare reported that Eric is at the U.S Embassy in Bagdad.  Dust storms have prevented them for going to their assigned area for several days.

“Slick Willie”, which has something to do with our immediate past Presidente, was highly complimented  for their music at the Griggsville Celebration last weekend…. (maybe they can perform for one of our Rotary events…..)

Program:  Bobette introduced Barbara Rickmiller RN BSN, Program Specialist for the Alzheimer's Association.

The association tries to inform people about Alzheimer's. It is the 7th leading cause of de3ath in this country. One out of 8 over 65, and 1 of 2 over 85 have the disease.  ¼ million under 65 have Alzheimer's.  In our 5 county area; Pike, Adams, Brown Cass and Schuyler counties, 3500 people have been diagnosed with this disease.

Alzheimer's is a progressive disease that destroys cells in the brain that effect memory, learning, making judgments, common tasks and doing daily living.

What’s good for your heart is also good for your brain.  Stay active physically and mentally.  Take care of your heart and eat healthy.

Area Alzheimer's services are FREE.

‘Safe Return’ bracelets are available.  The are for patients to wear, and have an 800 number to call when they are identified by the bracelet.  Tracy Family grant is paying for them this year.
