TWO NEW ROTARIANS:

Walker Filbert inducted his nephew, Josh Filbert, who was Secretary of the Geneva, IL Rotary Club.  He is affiliated with the Hooper/Neibur Insurance with his father Jim.

(Walker claimed that at one time he knew the Nigerian Rotary  Induction Ceremony, but didn’t use it…Yeah)….

Dan Borrowman reminded us that Farmer’s Day is March 4, 2009.  Speaker is Michael Williamson, Executive Director of the Farm Equipment Dealer’s Assoc.  (He is also Joyce Leahy’s brother.).

Reality Store is March 12…Shirley wants as many as possible to sign up to help. It starts a 9:00 a.m., so be there early…..

Student Guests:

Clayton Leeson, son of Steve (DDS) and Janet.  He is in NHS, Golf, Volunteers for the Lion’s Club, plans to go to Quincy University majoring in Pre-Law

Blake Walch, daughter of Paul and Cathy, is in NHS, Softball,  plans to go to SIU majoring in chemistry.

Chuck led us in one verse of ‘Smile’…(wish he’d learn that is it in E-flat )….

Program;  Mark Meleski introduced Patty McIntosh and Jan Bleich, who substituted for Michelle Westmas, who had trouble speaking.

They told us the County received $50,000.00 for a county-wide health assessment.

A focus group from the Institute of Rural Health is helping with it.

Our population is older and over 10% is impoverished!!

Income in Pike is less than the rest of the state.

80 %  of the adults take blood pressure medicine.

Over 14 % of the residents don’t have health insurance.

One-fourth of the population has not seen a dentist in the last 2 years, and less than half have some form of dental insurance….
