Filbert reported that we had a report from the Literacy Committee. Roberta
Dolbeare filled us in that we had received a Rotary grant for
$2,000.00....which combined with our local club donation should make for
another year of successful book purchases.
We were very
happy to have Ann Revis back among us, after suffering a broken leg...
We are down
one member. Randy Hires is moving to Waverly, and has resigned form our
club. We wish him well in this move.
Bill Durall
reported that Diego is really enjoying the camera our Rotary Club purchased for
him. He's taking a lot of pictures.
A 'Thank
you' letter were received from the Christmas Basket program for thee donation
to help buy food for the baskets.
A letter
requesting Rotary's participation in the Pike County Economic Development
Corporation was received and turned over to the board.
Program::
David Fuhler, who is going to be Master of Ceremonie for the Illinois State
Fair Queen Contest, introduced Christina Hanna, Pike County Fair Queen.
Christina will be participating in the Illinois State Fair Queen Contest on
Saturday.
Christina
said she was very happy to be representing the Pike County Fair, and all of
Pike County, in the IllinoisState Fair Queen Contest. 65 Contestants will take
part at 7:00 p.m. Saturday. She said she was really planning on doing as well
as possible.
Christina
also told us that she had been a member of our Rotary Interact Club at
Pittsfield High School for 3 years before graduating, and was treasurer for all
three years. Their projects included getting a well dug for a village in
Tunisia, Africa, assisting with the Habitat for Humanity house in Griggsville
and baking cookies monthly for the nursing homes.
At the
University of Illinois at Urbana, she is now a part of the first Interact Club
on Campus. She was part of a group that met with the University Rotary Club and
helped get it started. They just got started this fall and will be working on a
project involving Children with needs and poverty.
We haven't
had a Illinois State Fair Queen since 1967...
Christina
said she really hoped to become the Queen and represent not only Pike Dcounty,
but all the Counties in Illinois...
We all
wished Christina Good Luck.... She did a very excellent job of telling us more
about our local Interact Club's :activities, as well as about the Illinois
State Fair Queen Contest.

Carnes told me his son, Ryan, will have a part on 'BONES' this Thursday night
at 8:00 p.m., on FOX network....Tune in, you'll enjoy seeing Ryan acting for
Television....
