PITTSFIELD ROTARY CLUB 1-12-2011

VP Josh Filbert reported that we had a report from the Literacy Committee. Roberta Dolbeare filled us in that we had received a Rotary grant for $2,000.00....which combined with our local club donation should make for another year of successful book purchases.

We were very happy to have Ann Revis back among us, after suffering a broken leg...

We are down one member.  Randy Hires is moving to Waverly, and has resigned form our club. We wish him well in this move.

Bill Durall reported that Diego is really enjoying the camera our Rotary Club purchased for him. He's taking a lot of pictures.

A 'Thank you' letter were received from the Christmas Basket program for thee donation to help buy food for the baskets.

A letter requesting Rotary's participation in the Pike County Economic Development Corporation was received and turned over to the board.

Program:: David Fuhler, who is going to be Master of Ceremonie for the Illinois State Fair Queen Contest, introduced Christina Hanna, Pike County Fair Queen. Christina will be participating in the Illinois State Fair Queen Contest on Saturday.

Christina said she was very happy to be representing the Pike County Fair, and all of Pike County, in the IllinoisState Fair Queen Contest. 65 Contestants will take part at 7:00 p.m. Saturday. She said she was really planning on doing as well as possible.

Christina also told us that she had been a member of our Rotary Interact Club at Pittsfield High School for 3 years before graduating, and was treasurer for all three years. Their projects included getting a well dug for a village in Tunisia, Africa, assisting with the Habitat for Humanity house in Griggsville and baking cookies monthly for the nursing homes.

At the University of Illinois at Urbana, she is now a part of the first Interact Club on Campus. She was part of a group that met with the University Rotary Club and helped get it started. They just got started this fall and will be working on a project involving Children with needs and poverty.

We haven't had a Illinois State Fair Queen since 1967...

Christina said she really hoped to become the Queen and represent not only Pike Dcounty, but all the Counties in Illinois...

We all wished Christina Good Luck.... She did a very excellent job of telling us more about our local Interact Club's :activities, as well as about the Illinois State Fair Queen Contest.

NOTE: Gregg Carnes told me his son, Ryan, will have a part on 'BONES' this Thursday night at 8:00 p.m., on FOX network....Tune in, you'll enjoy seeing Ryan acting for Television....
