Program:
President Dan Borrowman introduced Brenda Middendorf, coordinator for Access
Illinois.
Brenda said,
Kaye Iftner asked me to attend your meeting to accept our $500.00 check to help
process donated deer for the food pantries in Pike County....and said "Oh
yes, you'll be our program"...
Access
Illinois food program is in it's 5th year, and we have now 3 facilities in this
area to process deer for us. Refrigerated trailer parked at the Arrow Shop,
which is manned by them for us, the Amish processor ...all have to be federally
and state inspected.
Last year we
had over 17,000 pounds of processed deer for the food pantries in this
county...we have in the past 4 years have processed and distributed over 45,000
pounds to needy people, and they've learned to really depend on it. Food
pantries do not get a lot of meat.
Hunters have
to fill out a form to file to make sure all deer are legal.
Wedon't know
how many people will be donating does this year, with the raising of the tag
costs to 25 dollars by the state for a doe tag. People did not mind paying $15
to shoot a deer to donate, but, the state is probably going to price many 'out
of the market' who would have donated an extra deer...(Wisconsin doe tags are
only $2.00)
On behalf of
those receiving the deer meat, I THANK you for your donation.
Thanks,
Brenda for a very informative program on this one part of Access Illinois.
