Bill Durall rreported on a meeting with Pikeland High School Principal, Angie Greggor on Interact. Many of the memberfs graduated. Need our Rotary members to volunteer to be on the Interact committee. Will try to reorganize as soon as possible. Meeting dates for Interact have been secured at the high school.
Josh Filbert presented the Past President Plaque to Past President Jan Bleich. Jan remarked that she enjoyed her year as President and thanked the club for support.
WE Rotarians Thank You, Jan, for the leadership you gave us and the many projects completed successfully, under your guidance.
Program: Jan Bleich introduced Jenn Jumper, Rotarian from Jacksonville, who is also Manager of the Wes Cdentral Mass Transit District.
Jenn spoke mon 'Puttin Wheels on Pike County'...The transit system currently has 23 vehicles and 25 people employed in the current 4 counties served, and it is doing well.
She wants to ask people here what the needs are. The Pike County Transit group worked for over 2 years before getting the approval of the Pike County Board.
There will a local office, local people hired, a manager put in place, and they are currently taking applications.
Rural transportation is different from cities. It is done on demand response and the rest on rgular schedule. No more than 50% can be on demand.
Run from a Federal Grant, it can not be prioritize Riders will be on a first called, first served basis.
Cost? Grant subsidized, but, will also look for other grants. cost is usually 2.99 in town, $4.00 round trip, $1.00 extra stops, about 3.50 for out-lying towns, 1 way, but that is estimated.
Will not turn away anone who cannot pay.
September 4 is estimated for a 4 hour program which is required for public programs. Public meetings in August will be held in all communities asking where, when transportation is needed.
Total cost per year estimated at $120,000...with $45,000 coming from Federal Grant.
Very ninformative meeting about getting transwportation for people in Pike County.....we need to really get behind this new program....
