PITTSFIELD ROTARY CLUB 9-22-2010

Visitor: Doug Smith, Farmers National Bank

Make-up: Julie Boren at Jerseyville

GREAT NEWS: DIEGO MARTINEZ, our Rotary Exchange Student, kicked 4 out of 5 field goals for the Saukees last week. That's better than the 'pro's' are doing...Congratulations, Diego..

Carole Bradshaw brought our Rotary Radio Days materials and explained them. New this year, a $20.00 time spot for vendors....with our 'Live' reporters.... Rotary Radio Days is also now on Face Book....

See your team captains and get your ads in early....This is our biggest fund raiser, and plan on being on the radio for Color Drive Weekend.....

Our Inter-ActClub at the Pikeland High School is interested in assisting us on the Radio....we would really encourage them.

Program: Greg Carnes introduced Mark Mountain, candidate for Sheriff...

Mark graduated from Perry, went into training for air mechanics, worked for Continental Airlines in the Airline industry ubtil they were merged. He then got a job in the Illinois Prison system. He has been at the Brown County Prison for 23 years, and has risen from 'recruit' to Captain.

They house over 2,000 prisoners there, ranging from the minor offenses to murderers, and it is not a really enjoyable situation for either the prisoners, or the people working ther, but it has to be done.

Mark says we need to be tough on crime. He would like to establish a 'Junior Deputy' program for youth....who would be educated in the rights and responsibilities of a citizen.

The Sheriff's department has a budget of 1.9 million. He would like to establish a Citizens Advisory Committee to help bring the will of the people into the department, bringing about responible change and leadership.

Very interesting program Mark.

Know your Rotarian: Jim Filbert, (who got here a litle late today), was tapped to give his information:

Graduated from Geneva High School in 1970, Met Noue, his wife, in college....where here was in Insurance. In 1978 was offered a job by his father-in-law, Dick Neibur...(naturally, he took it)...when he told Noue they were moving to Pittsfield, she said: "I just got outta there"......!!!

They have three sons, Josh, Joey and Augie....

He has been President of the PikeCounty Red CrossChapter, Pike Industrial Chairman.
